How The PTO Raises Money

In the 2015/2016 school year we raised ~ $88k in net income and hope to raise at least $90k this coming year.  The more we raise, the more sustainable our enrichment programs become.  With additional funding we can overcome cost increases and have the option to absorb further programs that may be cut by LAUSD.  Remember, we are a non-profit group:  all proceeds go towards enriching our kids’ experience at Calabash and any extra money rolls forward to the next school year.  So, how do we raise the money we need?  Keep reading…!

Fundraisers & Events

The Calabash PTO runs a variety of events and fundraisers throughout the year to help raise money.  Beyond these one-time events, the following programs also help us to raise money:

Our Top 5 Fundraisers in 2015-2016 brought in over 85% of our net income:

Y.E.S Fund – $45K
Online Auctions – $15.2K
Enrichment Classes – $6.6K
Holiday & Mother/Father’s Day Boutiques – $5.2K

Mrs. Fields Cookie Dough Sales – $2.8K

Y.E.S. Fund

As you can see, our Y.E.S. Fund brought in over 50% of our income and continues to be our primary fundraising vehicle.  Parents love the easy monthly installment/credit card payment plans, as well as the many incentives offered at various donation levels (i.e. Calabash Cash, free yearbooks, Spring Carnival tickets, etc).

September is our “Y.E.S. Month” when parents make their annual pledge.  Classes compete for the highest percentage of participation earned by 9/30.  The top 3 classes have their teacher’s classroom wish granted up to $1,200 per classroom.  We track the results all month on a big banner on campus and parents, kids and teachers check weekly to see how their class is doing — such an exciting month!
